The Trip, The Too Much Food and The Packing

Soon we are off on a long weekend away. In about 24 hours actually, and it will be our first trip away with Baby Boy. Woooppeee! and Arrrgh! We are going away with 5 of my friends and their OHs and kids. We’ve all been friends since we were 5 years old so pretty much know each other inside out. It’ll be the first same we have been together on holiday with all the kids as well. There are 9 in total so that’s not so bad is it? Well, I hope not. 3 are under the age of 1 so I’m hoping so.

One of us had the idea of each of us bringing one main thing so that we were catered for the entire trip food and drink wise. Bright idea one might say. I am in charge of brekkie. Not so bright when your Tesco shop arrives in the morning and you realise you might have bought a little too much (maybe even enough to feed about 20 adults). I spent about 2 days compiling and amending and then re-amending my order so that I prepared and wouldn’t forget anything. I also wanted to provide a bit of variety to everyone including the tiddly winks so the list goes something like this

  • Bread
  • Cereal
  • Crumpets
  • Jam
  • Chocolate Crepes
  • Bagels
  • Cheese
  • Spreads
  • Croissants
  • Beans
  • Eggs
  • Potato cakes
  • Hash Browns
  • Fruit
I tried an “experimental” pack this morning and if I try not to crush any of the baked goods then we will have about 6 large bags. So if you include all the brekkie stuff, the burgers and marinated chicken we are already taking (for lunch, you see), the baby’s “Stuff”, (Steriliser, food, milk bottles, bedding, clothes, snacks, toys, sleepsuits, vests, his rocking chair; basically everything he owns!), my “Stuff” and the hubby’s “Stuff” then, according to my calculations, that adds up to about…. 155 bags. How the hell are we going to get it all in the car? I have texted OH at work to say it’s about 4 bags. In total.

Oh, and I’ve just remembered we need to take the buggy too.

  1. That breakfast sounds amazing! It is unbelievable how much stuff is required when you go anywhere with a baby. I took Iyla to Spain when she was 3 months old, luckily my OH has a van so we just took everything! Have a lovely time, it sounds fun! X

  2. I’m trying to think of some helpful advice, but seeing as I brought 3 entire wardrobes, not to mention an entire toybox on our hols I don’t think I can….I won’t mention the extra stuff we’ve accumulated whilst we’ve been here that needs to go home.
Your breakfasts however sound utterly delish! Have fun x

  3. I stayed at my mums for the weekend back in June just me and a baby and a toddler and I struggled to get everything in the car!! So. Don’t envy you bat all. It’s the buggy that takes up the biggest space. Anyway, I hope you enjoy your time awa xxx

  4. Having 4 kids I am now brilliant at packing – for our week long stay at Center Parcs we took 2 suitcases, 1 bag of baby toys, 1 rucksack with Swimming attire in & the pushchair.
The week in London was 1 suitcase, 2 Trunkis, 1 rucksack, 1 bag of baby toys & a pushchair.
Not bad for 6 of us!!
