Meeting Fernando One Sunny Day

Since Little Z has arrived we are constantly finding ourselves challenged on how to entertain him. It was easy at first, shake a few rattles, sing a few songs and he would be highly amused.

As he’s gotten older and wiser he is a bit more demanding with his choice of entertainment. “Outside” features in most of his requests. As does “dancing dancing”. Luckily we are in the midst of very lovely weather at the moment and so decided to take him to our local play farm.

I secretly love toddler outings. It’s like selfishly reliving my entire childhood again.

It was a scorching day and we were in a battle against time. Try to keep z awake in the car whilst trying to find our way back onto the correct route after getting lost. I’ve never really appreciated my surroundings, living on the cusp of the Yorkshire Dales, but its absolutely beautiful.

The play farm was a lot of fun and my only regret is not having visited earlier. Little Z had the chance to feed the calves but declared “I no like it, I scared”. As a dutiful mother I was delighted, I mean willing, to step in and feed him instead.

He did enjoy seeing the “horsey” and sheep though and was a bit perplexed at the guinea pigs. He also learnt the word “bull” and “Fernando”, the bull stud who came over to have a bit of a nosey at us. The farmer explained to a 6 year old that Fernando had a lot of girlfriends. Little Z wasn’t too bothered but the 6 year old did look slightly stunned at this bit of information.

All in all it was a brilliant day out. Little Z got to feed calves, I got to “help” and we both got to take away our own little memories. Of cows and sheep and horses…and a bull named Fernando who lives in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales.

  1. Wonderful post and wonderful pictures. My 15 month old is obsessed with birds (maybe living with parrots does it) and I am so looking forward to taking her to Birdworld this weekend.

  2. such beautiful photos Tas – bright and colourful and very eye catching. i used to enjoy taking B to a local farm, which has since shut down since i had J, and we used to love going once every few weeks to see the animals and feed them x

  3. You do live in a beautiful place, the Play Farm sounds like an ideal place to spend the day and have lots of fun meeting the animals there. The photos are lovely and show what an idyllic location it is, thanks for sharing with Country Kids.

  4. The yorkshire dales are beautiful. I have family from there and used to visit when I was younger! Glad you were able to take the opportunity of the sunshine. My wee man loves animals but can get wary of getting too close too.
